Mother’s Day is Fast Approaching

How do you plan on honouring your Mama this year?

Mother’s Day is fast approaching.

Your mother grew both you and your child/children in her womb. That is the power of a mum. What an immense concept that is to get your head around.

  • That pinkie promise of “I’ve got you” travels through generations.

  • From our mothers to us. From us to our babies.

  • The quiet thread that runs through every family.

  • So how do you plan on honouring your Mama this year?

Not with something rushed or last-minute. But with something meaningful.

If you are in Hertfordshire, there are some truly beautiful ways to spend the day together.

A Slow Morning and Afternoon Tea

Sometimes the most meaningful gift is simply time together.

A slow morning. A proper conversation. Laughter over warm scones and cups of tea. Because sometimes the greatest gift you can give your mum is simply your company.

One of the most elegant places to do this locally is Fanhams Hall. The gardens are peaceful and the afternoon tea is a lovely way to spend a few hours celebrating the women who raised us. Another favourite is Sopwell House where many families book a Mother’s Day afternoon tea or spa experience.

  • Fanhams Hall – elegant historic house with a special Mother’s Day afternoon tea event (£47.50 adults).

  • Sopwell House – luxury spa hotel serving traditional afternoon tea with pastries, sandwiches and scones.

  • Pendley Manor – afternoon tea overlooking landscaped gardens.

Perfect if you want something relaxed, pretty and very “mum-friendly.”

A Walk Through Hertfordshire’s Beautiful Countryside

Mother’s Day does not always need to revolve around a table.

Hertfordshire has some of the most beautiful countryside in England.

You could take a gentle walk around the gardens at Hatfield House or wander through the grounds of Knebworth House.

Fresh air. Space to talk. No rush.

Sometimes the best conversations happen on long walks.

A Cosy Pub Lunch

After a countryside walk, many families head to a traditional pub for lunch.

Places such as The Cowper Arms offer the kind of relaxed Sunday lunch that makes Mother’s Day feel easy and warm.

Roast potatoes. Good wine. Family around the table.

The simple things are often the most memorable.

A Creative Experience Together

Some families prefer experiences over meals.

Flower arranging. Pottery workshops. Craft markets. Even simple days exploring local towns like Hertford or St Albans can turn into a lovely Mother’s Day tradition.

What matters most is not what you do.

It is the time you spend together.

A Different Way to Celebrate Motherhood

There is one more way to honour your mum this year.

Something that lasts longer than the day itself.

A portrait together.

Because when you look through family photos, you will often find something surprising.

Hundreds of photographs of children.

Very few of the mothers who raised them.

When was the last time you were in the frame with your children?

Not the quick selfie. Not the cropped holiday snap.

But a portrait that feels like you.

Calm. Connected. Present.

The Mother’s Day Portrait Experience

To celebrate Mother’s Day this year, I have created a simple portrait experience in my Hertford studio.

For just £25 to secure your session, you can book a Mother’s Day portrait session capturing the connection between mothers and their children.

Studio portraits are available, with the option of outdoor portraits on the surrounding grounds if the weather allows.

Many families choose to include multiple generations.

Grandmothers. Mothers. Children.

Three generations in one portrait.

A moment that tells the story of your family.

Why These Portraits Matter

One day your children will look back through family photographs.

They will see birthday parties. School uniforms. Holidays.

But the photographs they will treasure most are the ones where they are wrapped safely in your arms.

Because those images show them something important.

That they were loved. That you were there. That you were part of their story.
